First Washington will be partnering up with Thirst Missions for our mission trip next summer to Alaska. While in Alaska we will serve the residents through a Vacation Bible School format as well as a building team to help in the restoration of projects in the area of service. We will be having a meeting Sunday, November 18, at 4:30 to discuss travel dates, cost, fundraising efforts, and what we would like to accomplish in Jesus' name while in Alaska. Please pray that you will join our church as we head to Alaska this summer.
At First Washington UMC, we live by the words "what breaks Jesus' heart is breaking ours. " Many people think of the word mission as being far, far away and it is. We also believe missions happen in our own back yard. With God's help we are looking for those opportunities to not just talk about it but really DO SOMETHING about becoming invested in the lost, weary, and the weak of this world. We have mission ideas lined up for children's ministry, youth ministry, family ministry, and adult ministry. Currently, we will be serving a local elementary school through our Community Garden beginning this summer. We are investing in those who work and who are coming to Loving Hearts Outreach and the Homeless Task Force. We will be investing in blessing bags for the homeless and have participated in Operation Shoebox to reach out to those children around the world who may not receive a present this Christmas. We will be taking an adult mission trip to Alaska next July 20-26, 2019. The youth will be taking a mission trip to Chatham, Illinois June 17-23, 2019. The mission of God's church is to love God and to love neighbor. We at First Washington invite you to participate with us in doing both.
