We will be taking 2 adult mission trips and 1 youth mission trip in 2020. Adult trips include Espanola, New Mexico at McCurdy Ministries from July 26- August 1 and Eureka Springs Arkansas at Echo Ministries from October 12-17. The youth group will be serving in Cookson County, Oklahoma from June 7-12. More information on all 3 of these mission opportunities will be available after the first of the year.
At First Washington UMC, we live by the words "what breaks Jesus' heart is breaking ours. " Many people think of the word mission as being far, far away and it is. We also believe missions happen in our own back yard. With God's help we are looking for those opportunities to not just talk about it but really DO SOMETHING about becoming invested in the lost, weary, and the weak of this world. We have mission ideas lined up for children's ministry, youth ministry, family ministry, and adult ministry. Currently, we will be serving a local elementary school through our Community Garden beginning this summer. We are investing in those who work and who are coming to Loving Hearts Outreach and the Homeless Task Force. We will be investing in blessing bags for the homeless and have participated in Operation Shoebox to reach out to those children around the world who may not receive a present this Christmas. We will be taking an adult mission trip to Alaska next July 20-26, 2019. The youth will be taking a mission trip to Chatham, Illinois June 17-23, 2019. The mission of God's church is to love God and to love neighbor. We at First Washington invite you to participate with us in doing both.
Each month, we help our local schools by packing and delivering Back Snacks. If you would like to help please contact Penny Stanfield at 832-656-7824.
Our first out of state mission trip in a while was to Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska. Our team of 13 along with 24 of our new church friends from Cornerstone Church in Spooner, Wisconsin helped fix projects at Cross Country Church in Wasilla, helped prepare and distribute food to the homeless at Bean's Café in Anchorage. Led a Vacation Bible School at Ilesia de Dios church in Anchorage, stocked food shelves in Wasilla and along the way connected deeply with God and others through devotion, worship and enjoying some of the beautiful nature Alaska has to offer. We will be planning at least one out of state mission trip in the near future and more information will be forthcoming.
