MISSIONS

At First Washington UMC, we live by the words "what breaks Jesus' heart is breaking ours. " Many people think of the word mission as being far, far away and it is. We also believe missions happen in our own back yard.  With God's help we are looking for those opportunities to not just talk about it but really DO SOMETHING about becoming invested in the lost, weary, and the weak of this world.  We have mission ideas lined up for children's ministry, youth ministry, family ministry, and adult ministry.  Currently, we will be serving a local elementary school through our Community Garden beginning this summer.  We are investing in those who work and who are coming to Loving Hearts Outreach and the Homeless Task Force. We will be investing in blessing bags for the homeless and have participated in Operation Shoebox to reach out to those children around the world who may not receive a present this Christmas.  We will be taking an adult mission trip to Alaska next July 20-26, 2019. The youth will be taking a mission trip to Chatham, Illinois June 17-23, 2019. The mission of God's church is to love God and to love neighbor.  We at First Washington invite you to participate with us in doing both.

BREAKING BREAD

Jesus says when we feed the hungry, we do it unto Him.  If you are an individual or a family that enjoys eating or if you would like to serve the hungry, on Sunday afternoons the ENTIRE month of March, First Washington UMC will reach out in the Washington community and offer a free lunch at the Washington public library located at 410 Lafayette Street, Washington, MO from 12:30-1:30 or until all meals have been served. If you would like to make a cash donation you can stop by the church office between 8am and noon or mail to First Washington United Methodist Church, 4349 Saint Johns Road, Washington, MO 63090. Be sure to put "Breaking Bread" on the memo line. You can also do this through on line giving HERE. For questions about this outreach in the community, please contact Cindy Lohmeyer at cindylohmeyer@sbcglobal.net
